House made and locally sourced, warm and experienced staff makes all the difference at Avenue Bistro. Make sure you try the hummus and warm fry bread. I could have eaten three plates of it!
“Make sure you write this one really good because this is the best food I’ve ever had.”
True words spoken from the mouth of my 9 year old when dining at Avenue Bistro in Courtenay.
What make a restaurant so good anyway? Is it the atmosphere? The service? The food itself?
Yes, yes and yes.
A good restaurant makes you feel comfortable and satisfies your pallet in a way you can’t do yourself. Avenue Bistro in the Comox Valley did just that for my family.
Upscale casual dining. The bistro itself is tastefully decorated with an upscale urban feel to it. Though the restaurant is on the nicer side, we arrived in our casual clothes and felt quite comfortable. After a day of packing and driving and a bit of sight-seeing, we were ready for some comfort food.
Knowing we had a Avenue Bistro to dine at helped us relax.
We started with the chicken satay and the house made hummus and goat cheese olivade.
Now I’ve had hummus and olivade before, but Avenue Bistro brings it out with their own house-made fry bread.
It’s almost like eating a hot fried donut!
Warm, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. So, so, so good. (This is when my daughter made her first declaration regarding her delight in the restaurant.)
With the appetizers consumed, the children coloured the pictures from their menus while we all talked about the day until our main courses arrived.
Fish tacos, mini hamburger, chicken strips and pizza. The sound of our order really isn’t much to ooh and ahh over, but each bite has so much flavour, we were all more than satisfied. Fresh ingredients cooked to perfection and a feeling of comfort and satisfaction caused each of us to feel relaxed and ready to call it a day.
Well, at least not before we tried their signature sticky date pudding with ice cream and toffee sauce. We came. We saw. And in a matter of about 2 minutes, we conquered.
Avenue Bistro is an unassuming, delectable choice for dinner in Courtenay or Comox.
If you don’t trust me, at least trust my 9 year old.

There’s so much to see, do, and experience in the Comox Valley on a family vacation.
5 minutes on the Comox Valley website searching around you’ll see why this Vancouver Island region is a powerhouse when it comes to an island vacation. Don’t miss this region!
On this particular visit to the Comox Valley we were on our first ever ski trip to Mount Washington Alpine Resort. Three days on the mountain and all three of our kids learned how to ski and board! We are hooked.

While our experience at Avenue Bistro was complimentary, you can rest assured that our thoughts, opinions, and findings are our own as always.
We went to celebrate a spose's birthday. Our choices were the two Schnitzel dishes and we were very pleased with them, ample portions served hot and quickly. There was also a good selection of wines on the list including the "house" wine as well as a good offering of malt whiskys. The staff were friendly and attentive. We will return to this restaurant and have no hestation in recommending it. JRL 24 Jan 2024 -
