Another hidden gem discovered in Black Goose Inn! Delicious desserts, Scottish Hunting Lodge, Step back in time, Puff the magic dragon, Ocean view, and the best Halibut on Vancouver Island!
Dining at the Black Goose Inn over looking the ocean is a treat for the whole family.
Just looking at the building you could tell there had to be a story to go along with this British Pub style restaurant.
While we thought we were just going to enjoy some good food, we discovered so much more about this hidden restaurant tucked away at Beach Acres Resort.
Many drive to the Black Goose Inn, but we were fortunate enough to take a casual stroll up from our beachfront cottage where we were vacationing. Such a great way to start our family night.
Turns out the restaurant was originally built in 1921 in the design of a Scottish hunting style lodge. Also known as a Maclure Style House. Back in the 1920’s it must have been considered a mansion with the original owners spending $50,000 on their dream home overlooking the ocean. In today’s terms that would be just over 1 million dollars.
The dinning area is set up in what was the living rooms of this beautiful British style house.
The walls are covered with panelled polished wood and there were several fireplaces throughout. Being in the Black Goose Inn truly felt like we were stepping back in time and even into another country.
While the uniqueness of the inside of the restaurant was quite the lure, we stuck with our casual beach theme of our vacation and enjoyed eating in the outside garden. We loved the outdoor summer atmosphere with the giant picnic tables, umbrellas, manicured lawn and view of the ocean.
Our Golden Retriever even got to dine with us. As we waited for our dinner, the kids ventured back into the restaurant after hearing the live musical entertainment through the outdoor speakers.
The man singing was kind enough to dedicate a song to our kids.
The kids recognized the song right away and giant smiles ensued as the familiar tune of “Puff the magic dragon” was played.
The food was absolutely delicious.
I had the Halibut which has been rated as the #1 Halibut on the Island and #2 in all of British Columbia. It was superb.
The menu was filled with wonderfully home cooked English & Scottish style meals.
Scottish Style Smoked Salmon, Steak And Kidney Pie, Bangers And Mash, Lamb Sausages and English Ploughmans to name a few. My kids aren’t ready to expand their English pallet quiet yet so they stuck with the tried and true chicken strips and fries, which were quite scrumptious I was told.
The desserts were fantastic as well.
We enjoyed the Sticky Toffee Pudding and the Guinness & Chocolate Pie.
All five of us gathered around our delectable desserts with our spoons in hand trying to take turns. I may have heard a few times “Hey why does daddy get such a big bite!”
And of course like any quality British pub style restaurant, it wouldn’t be complete without a bar service.
The Black Goose Inn has a great selection of imported UK beers served out of a room that could very well have been out of an English countryside movie.
Black Goose Inn has up to 19 drafts to choose from, so you won’t be short on beer options and you definitely won’t be leaving thirsty.
Whether you make a special trip to Parksville just for a dining experience at the Black Goose Inn, or are in the area, it will be well worth it. Enjoy!
