Duncan Farmer’s Market stands out as one of the best year-round markets on Vancouver Island! Unique artisan creations, fresh produce, jams, cheeses and more!
Every Saturday, rain or shine, the town of Duncan blocks off 2 streets in the heart of downtown for a farmer’s market.
No matter what the sky is doing, rain or shine the Duncan Farmer’s market is worth checking out.
Fresh Vancouver Island grown and produced meats, fruits, vegetables, wines, cheeses, honey, artisan treasures, clothing and much, much more.
I even found my favourite island coffee at the Duncan Farmer’s Market. The vendor I met roasts the beans every week and drives all the way from Port Alberni to sell the sweet nectar. He’ll grind them right there for you too should you need. Now that’s Island fresh.
But it’s more than just freshly roasted coffee. The Duncan market runs by the philosophy
“you make it, you bake it, you grow it, you sell it.”
And really, that’s what makes it so wonderful. This is where you come to find the freshest Vancouver Island grown produce and the most beautiful flowers.
This is also where you will find that unique piece of jewelry or the best hand-carved wooden spoon. And you can’t pass up sweet locally produced honey.
Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you’ll pass a vendor with hand-carved fairy houses or island soaps of every smell you can think of. My son kept picking up the tiny fairy chairs trying to figure out if he can carve one just like it. I know what he’ll be doing on our next camping trip.
Friendly dogs on leash are welcome, much to my daughter’s delight. I think she pet every single dog in her path. And while we walked, we listened to various street musicians.
My favourite was the steel drum guy bringing sounds we don’t often hear on the island.
We stopped for lunch at one of the food tents and easily were able to find enough to eat. And of course we bought some freshly baked bread to take home for dinner.
On a beautiful summer day I could sit on one of the park benches and people watch all day. There’s plenty to see, smell, and hear. It’s quite relaxing.
But I simply can’t mention it all. With well over 150 vendors, you will surely find a unique gift to remember the specialness of Vancouver Island. The Duncan Farmer’s Market is perfect rain or shine.
Duncan Farmer’s Market Hours: Spring/Summer 9am-2pm. Fall/Winter 10am-2pm. Every Saturday year-round on Ingram Street, Downtown Duncan.
