I asked the worker at Salt Spring Island Cheese Company how she could possibly work in the tasting room all day long and not just eat cheese all day long? Her response…
Cheese. Let’s all say it together….YUM!
There’s gotta be a song somewhere about how fantastic cheese is. And if there’s not, will someone please get on that? Cheese really deserves a song.
I was just visiting Salt Spring Island Cheese Company and have to say…goat cheese is my new favourite. It’s smooth, creamy, and pretty much melts in your mouth. This small cheese factory is locally owned and operated and makes only goat and sheep cheeses. From large windows around the building, my children and I were able to watch the process of making cheese and learn how scientific it really is.
After our look around, we stepped into the tasting/sampling room.
The control freak parent in me only let one child in at a time because I was afraid that once the kids started sampling, they would never stop. And I was right…a little bit. Actually I think I was more of a problem than they were.
There were so many delectable cheeses to sample and I think I was hungrier than I thought. My daughter and I are lactose intolerant, so finding a quality cheese that we can digest (and actually WANT to digest) can be tricky. Since everything here is lactose free (!) we were allowed to try every. single. one. of. them.
It was glorious.
And we really had a hard time stopping. Jay, on the other hand, couldn’t get enough of the jams and jellies they had as samples too.
After filing each of my kids in to sample the bounty (notice, I personally filed them each in so I could continue to partake), I asked the worker how she could possibly work in the tasting room all day long and not just eat cheese all day long?
Her response?
“I just eat cheese all day long.”
I actually laughed out loud. One of the reasons she chose to work at Salt Spring Cheese Company is simply because she loves cheese too and figured it would be a good way to eat her fill every single day. Hmm…I think she may be on to something.
I did eventually loosen my grip on the kids when I saw how well-behaved they were and let all three of them in at the same time. I’m pretty sure it had more to do with the fact that I just didn’t want to leave.
Anyway, when you decide to take a holiday on Salt Spring Island, you really need to check out this quaint Cheese Company. Eat your fill of really good cheese and then buy some to take home. You can thank me later.
