On a recent sunny day, we explored Unsworth’s “A Sparkling Day in Cowichan” experience. From the moment we arrived, the vineyard’s inviting atmosphere charmed us. Opting for the tasting room over the restaurant, we were treated to a delightful array of sparkling wines that made our afternoon truly special.
Whether you’re on a romantic date, on vacation or catching up with friends, the tasting room offers a relaxed and engaging experience for all.
Unsworth Vineyards may be relatively young, but it’s on a remarkable journey of growth. From producing just 300 cases in its first year to an impressive 12,000 cases today, the vineyard is dedicated to crafting exceptional wines “one vine, one bottle, and one blend at a time.”
The Cowichan Valley, aptly named “warmland” by the First Nations peoples, boasts a Mediterranean-like climate that’s ideal for grape growing.
This unique micro-climate allows Unsworth Vineyards to cultivate vines perfectly suited to the mild, coastal environment.
During our visit, we indulged in the Charme de l’îl collection, which was expertly paired with smoked candied salmon and tuna tartare.
It’s amazing how the right pairing can elevate the complexity of a wine. The smoky richness of the salmon beautifully highlighted the fruity notes of the Rosé—my personal favourite.
Unsworth Vineyards is also committed to sustainability and using locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. Our tasting celebrated the region’s seafood bounty, showcasing how local flavours and bold Cowichan Valley wines come together harmoniously.
Sitting under an umbrella, surrounded by the sounds of summer—melodic birds and the gentle splash of the waterfall—made our tasting experience simply perfect. The friendly and knowledgeable staff further enriched our visit, making it a memorable outing.
