If you answer “YES” to any of the following questions then you are a balcony stateroom kind of cruiser! Take an inside look at our room on the Carnival Splendor!
It feels like just yesterday we were on the Carnival Splendor enjoying our Mexican Riviera cruise.
The big question every first time cruiser asks themselves when booking their cruise is if the balcony stateroom worth the extra money?
I get it, it’s really hard to know whether to spend even more on your cruise by going for the upgrade, especially if you’re a first-time cruiser and don’t know fully what to expect.
You may find yourself bouncing back and forth between various room choices and driving yourself crazy trying to make the right choice.
We can help!
If you answer “YES” to any of the following questions, then a balcony stateroom is what you need.
1. Do You Enjoy Fresh Ocean Air In The Morning?
My favourite part of having a balcony stateroom is the morning. Just after room service arrived I slipped out onto the deck in my bathrobe with my cup of tea, leaned out over the railing, felt the warm Mexican sun and ocean breeze on my face, and soaked it all in. I wish I could start every day like that!
2. Do You Enjoy Natural Sunlight?
The blackout curtains do wonders, but it’s nice to also have just a little bit of natural sunlight creeping through to let you know it’s morning. This helps your body wake up naturally and it’s proven to be a better way to start your day. In an interior room there is zero natural light and for me that’s a really hard way to wake up and get going. You might be the same way.
3. Would You Enjoy Your Own Private Deck And Oceanview?
Carnival Cruises are experts in knowing how to have more fun, but sometimes you just need to get away in your own space. Choosing a Carnival balcony stateroom gives you a guaranteed private deck retreat anytime you need.
We also really enjoyed being on our balcony looking out at the scenery watching the port come into view.
4. Will You Have Lots Of Family Bathing Suits And Swim Shirts To Dry Out?
We are a family of 5 who loves the pool and the beach, so that means we always had something wet needing a clothes line. We brought our own little rope to set up on our balcony with clothes pins and it worked perfectly. Every morning we had dry bathing suits to jump back into and that’s always better than slinking into a cold, wet suit.
5. Do You Like To Splurge On Big Vacations And Treat Yourself And Your Family?
Depending on the sailing dates, sometimes a balcony stateroom is really not that much more money. I just took a look at the upcoming Carnival Splendor Mexican Riviera sailings and if you are flexible with your dates, you can find yourself paying only $250-400 more for a balcony.
Another perk of getting yourself a balcony stateroom is the easy option for adjoining rooms. This is ideal for a family as you can open up your deck partition and voila! You got yourself a bigger deck and an adjoining room.
We, on the other hand, stuck our kids in an interior room across the hall and they loved it just the same.
Whatever room you decide your stateroom is going to be clean, comfortable and a wonderful home base for the week. Every choice on the Carnival Splendor, whether a simple interior or a grand balcony room, offers you peace and comfort as you wind down for the night after all that Carnival fun.
Day or night, you have a room attendant ready to help with anything you might need.
Room service is an easy phone call away, and don’t forget my favourite, hang the breakfast room service order on your door handle before just going to bed!

Additional Room Selection Considerations
Should you go for an “L Shaped” balcony stateroom if you get the chance?
If you’ve never been on a cruise before it’s kind of hard to know what exactly your room will be like. It’s even harder if you have one of the unique “L Shaped” balcony rooms like we did.
Here’s how you answer that question:
Would you prefer to have a deck double the size as everyone else and an extra window and a quieter room? Then the answer is “Yes”. Would you prefer to have a small couch in your room instead of a double sized deck? Then the answer is “No”.
If you are paying extra for the balcony room anyway, then I say go for an “L Shaped” balcony stateroom.
Do You Like Peace And Quiet?
Be sure to look at your cruise ship deck plans to see what’s right outside your door, above you and below you. Our room number was 6448 on the 6th floor and it we loved the peace and quiet. Since it was at the end of the hallway we heard very little foot traffic. There was also zero noise that came through our walls, floor or ceiling.
If quiet is important to you, be very careful on room selection as I’ve heard not all rooms have the same silence as we experienced.
We’ve read online that others felt their room location was a little too noisy for their liking and complained of lobby, casino, entertainment, etc… noise. Check out the Carnival ship map and overview for more info.
